We bid a fond farewell to our Interim Pastor Jim Robertson and his wife Pat with a time of fellowship after Pastor Jim's final service at Lamoine Baptist on October 30. Jim and Pat served us faithfully for three years.
The Pulpit Committee continues to search for the next permanent leader of our congregation. Meanwhile, Rev. Foster Williams has agreed to serve as our next interim pastor. Pastor Williams and his wife Mary Jane live in Winterport. He has served as pastor in churches in four different states and was our East Area Resource Minister for several years. Dr. Williams has also sered as Director of the American Baptist Churches of Maine Institute for Ministry.
From Pastor Williams: Person to Person
We are now entering that season many refer to as "the holdiay season" - the Thanksgiving/Advent/Christmas/New Year season. It is a season filled with many special church and family actiities and traditions that we look forward to with anticipation and joy. For Mary Jane and me, there is a dominant feeeling that we experience during this season: a sense of gratitude and thanksgiving. Let me share why this seems to be the case:
1. November 24 is a national day of Thanksgiving. While this is a time of economic challenge, there is much for which we can be grateful. As the hymn says: "Count your blessings, name them one by one. Count your many blessings, see what God has done."
2. November 27 is Advent Sunday, the beginning of a four week period when we prepare ourselves to celebrate the birth of God's great Gift of Love - His Son, Jesus Christ. In addition, this season contains church activities and traditions for which we are deeply grateful.
3. Christmas Day December 25 - the birthday of our Lord and Savior. What a reason for rejoicing!
4. Sunday, January 1, 2012 - As we begin a new calendar year, we have assurance that God Who was so faithful to us in 2011 will be faithful to us in 2012.
5. For Mary Jane and me, we rejoice in the privilege of being part of the Lamoine Baptist Church family, for a time, and we look forward to spending this season with you. For your warm welcome, for making us "feel at home," for your support, prayers and encouragement, we are deeply grateful.
Cordially in Him,
Foster and Mary Jane Williams, Interim Ministry Team
